Hurray. I've managed to get my scale to read 56-point-something kgs again. For a while there it was hovering around the 58-59 zone! Hrmph.
How? Salad. And portion control.
And then yesterday it all went to hell cos BIKSS drove me to a wonderful store across the border where I bought a ton of pastries. The place is famous for its "fragrant biscuits" (it's a literal translation) - looks like this:
The wiki description reads :
"Heong Peng (Chinese: 香餅; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: hiong-piánn; Heong Peah in Hokkien) means fragrant pastries in English. These pastries, which resemble slightly flattened balls, contain a sweet sticky filling made from malt and shallots, which is covered by a flaky baked crust and garnished with sesame seeds on the surface."
And the best part about this particular shop is that they've developed a MOCHA flavoured version!! It's totally delish! Everyone who's tried it agrees.
I am also in love with their "shao bao". OK so what it is, is instead of traditional
steamed pork (char siew) buns that you might recognise from dim sum restaurants -
the ones I like are baked instead - with the same juicy char siew (barbecued pork) filling inside :
I've eaten one for breakfast almost everyday for the last 2 weeks (since BIKSS last went and procured two boxes for me...) and now that my existing stash is almost finished, I'm happy to announce I have 9 more - which will last me about another 2 weeks (since I don't have breakfast on the weekend).
It was almost time for an early dinner, but not before I checked out the factory outlet store - and ended up with a cute little number that looks something like this - comfy and decent enough for work but will also take me from day to night if I needed to head straight to the theatre or a nice restaurant :
Of course since we were in our favourite city-across-the-border, we just *had* to have dinner at our regular Japanese place, and this time, we tried a new teapot soup thing.
It's a light miso-flavoured clear soup, and the lemon is for squeezing over the seafood and into the teapot! Yes, lemon. In soup. It was strange and interesting, and not unpleasant in the least.
Can you see the "fish" at the bottom of the tiny bowls/cups? So cute!
The teapot stand comes with a tealight candle to keep the soup warm throughout the meal.
We also had tempura squid.
Miso stir fried brinjals.
Beef hotplate with onions, spring onion and beansprouts.
And for dessert - a fruit salad.
As always, I had a tummyache after eating there. I think it's cos I always end up eating way more than my usual portion.
The whole trip was sponsored by Daddy - cos he refused to let me pay him back for the food that I had bought. I didn't feel it was right at first, cos it's not all for me. I mean, most of it was for giving away. But he said it was fine, cos the goodwill is intended for me (even if the food didn't all end up in my tummy).
That made me smile.. cos no one else has ever done something like this for me :)
